Partner Roundtable Session: How to Transition from Set-Asides to Core Funding, Hosted by Minority-Serving Institution STEM Research & Development Consortium (MSRDC)
phase 0 image

The Minority-Serving Institution STEM Research & Development Consortium (MSRDC) is a strategic research and entrepreneurial asset that provides a unique funding mechanism for organizations to work with Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), including Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), on federally funded research projects. The MSRDC members and business partners, along with the sponsoring government agencies, form a non-traditional collaborative partnership, addressing inherent barriers commonly experienced by MSIs to form meaningful partnerships. The MSRDC funding vehicle permits Consortium faculty and sponsoring federal research agencies to engage with one another individually or collaboratively and in rapidly funded awards outside of the restrictive minority 'set-asides.' Our roundtable session led by Michael Hester, President & CEO, MSRDC and Alan Arnold, Director of Research Development, MSRDC will include discussion and Q&A on engaging MSIs, how small businesses can create partnerships with MSIs, the nature of such partnerships, and what successful collaborations look like.

phase 0 image phase 1 image

Join a panel hosted by Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) to hear about their experiences taking national small business support programs down to the local level and how networks of regional small business clusters can help achieve federal agency technology goals. We have a dynamic panel that includes two Ohio small businesses that will be sharing how they discovered the SBIR/STTR programs and their paths through the application process and the support they relied on along the way. We’ll also be welcoming Anthony Gillespie who runs the SBA FAST program in Ohio, which supports increased engagement in federal SBIR/STTR participation. He will discuss how that national program helps at the local level. Finally, we’ll have Kathleen Gilpin from Wright State Research Institute to talk about the other Government Agency efforts out there to support new entrants into SBIR/STTR. Specifically, the WSRI's Academic Partnership Engagement Experiment is a USAF funded activity working across the U.S. to infuse new technologies to the warfighter, including greater academic engagement through STTR.
