Training Hardware Management System

Abstract:

APTEK proposes to develop and deliver an innovative "paper-free" 
system for managing, tracking and configuring flight crew training 
hardware for manned-space missions. This system is innovative 
because it combines advanced inventory and database management with 
state-of-the-art bar coding and remote reporting technologies to 
create a unique training hardware management system. The resulting 
system will provide NASA personnel with a more efficient means of 
managing, and tracking, in real-time, 
the thousands of items used in crew training activities. The 
system could potentially be applied to actual flight conditions 
where the location of stowed items must be tracked in real-time. 
During the Phase I effort a prototype system will be developed 
and delivered.

The logistics and inventory management technology described in 
this effort have many potential commercial applications. The 
demand for tools for storage/shipping planning and inventory 
management is very high. The commercial space industry would be 
a direct application, as would shipping/transport industries 
like the railroad and trucking industries. These industries have 
a high demand for easy-to-use software tools 
which speed up the loading, unloading, tracking, and inventory 
management of their cargo. Storage/shipping warehouses have 
similar needs for this technology.
