The objective of this proposal is to overcome significant challenges towards a deployable quantum repeater in a future quantum internet. We will demonstrate a path towards a cost-efficient quantum repeater node that integrates diamond color centers (CCs) as quantum memories with a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) in a compact cryogenic system.
NASA has initiated several efforts towards both space- and ground-based quantum networks, including the National Space Quantum Laboratory, involvement under the INQNET program, and an upcoming effort under “Marconi 2.0”.
Our proposed work will greatly extend the entanglement distance for a ground-based quantum internet towards the metropolitan scale of 100+ km through the successful development of a quantum repeater.
