Acoustic Emission Bearing Fault Diagnostics System

AI  Signal Research, Inc.

Huntsville, AL

INNOVATION
AEBDS is a PC-based, high-frequency bearing health monitoring system (HMS) utilizing acoustic emission (AE) sensor technology coupled with innovative high-frequency signal -processing techniques for incipient fault detection of rolling element bearings.
Acoustic Emission Bearing Fault Diagnostics System
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
    • Development stage: AEBDS commercial version available.
    • The AEBDS system successfully detected incipient bearing degradation in a series of comprehensive bearing tests in a controlled laboratory environment with a BridgePort mill. The SBIR-funded research culminated with an effective demonstration of AEBDS on the high-speed simplex turbopump at NASA/MSFC.
COMMERCIALIZATION
    • On-line version of AEBDS hardware/software system is being marketed by ASRI.

    • Post-processing version of AEBDS is also available in PC-SIGNALTM commercial software product.
    •
    • Primary target/potential market sectors: aircraft/helicopter industries, rocket engine manufacturers, transportation industry, nuclear power industry.
    • AEBDS included in product upgrade study by major aerospace industry.
    • Unique competitive advantage: novel signal analysis techniques and easy-to-use interface software enable engineers to perform vibration analysis with a very cost-effective system.

GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
    • AEBDS technology included in NASA/MSFC-sponsored study of Reusable Launch Vehicles for upgraded cryogenic propellant rocket engines.
    • AEBDS technology is used by U.S. Army Redstone Technical Test Center for analysis of weapon system test data.
