Woburn, MA

INNOVATION
  • Fast, low insertion loss photonic switched time delay
Probabilistic Finite Element System
Prototype 8-bit time delay module

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Demonstrated two (8-bit and 4-bit modules) high performance optical delay lines
  • Time delays achieved with 8-bit module are 300 pico-seconds to micro-seconds with < 3.5dB insertion loss and a few pico-seconds to 300 pico-seconds with < 3.0dB insertion loss for the 4-bit module
  • Demonstrated operating range is from -40 Celsius to 70 Celsius
COMMERCIALIZATION
  • Commercial product sales attributable to the project have reached $1 million annually
  • Aerospace and the defense industry are the primary market for this technology

GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
  • Technology may be used to develop very large spaceborne radar arrays  in the future
